Maligatenna Raja Maha Viharaya

Maligatenna Raja Maha Vihara is an ancient Cave temple located in Malwatuhiripitiya village, Gampaha District. The temple is situated on the Gampaha - Wathurugama Road.
This temple has been recognised as a protected archaeological site in Gampaha District by the Archaeological department. The history of Maligathenna Raja Maha Vihara goes back to the period of the Anuradhapura Kingdom. The temple is divided into two grounds. Pahala Maluwa and Ihala Maluwa.
The Image House, Bo tree, an ancient Devalaya and Stupa sits on the Pahala maluwa. Ihala maluwa consits of the Bo tree and a Stupa. There are several rock caves with drip ledges found in the vihara premises. According to professor Senarath Paranavithana, the engraved stone door frame is believed to be from the 8th century A.D
