Hermitages are often compared to monasteries, or located on the same grounds. These are occupied by monks who receive a dispensation from their abbot or a place they retire to prior to a life of semi-solitary. Many Monasteries are to be found around the island. These are mostly of beautiful architecture while others are of sober design and stone structure.
