Kovils
Kovils are Hindu shrines dedicated to the main Hindu Gods and Goddess, Siva, Kali, Vishnu and Kataragama. These kovils were constructed by the Tamil community for the purpose of their worship and devotion.
The building designs were that of the South Indian architectural plan in construction methodology, sculpture and colour, constructed by skilled Indian craftsmen. The entrance of each always has what is known as the Gopamm, an elaborate sculpture that dominates it.
